MANUFACTURING
How a waxed canvas bag gets made
Every leather part is cut, polished, and waxed by hand in Onsala, then sent to our small factory in southern Sweden, where it's brought together with the canvas panels for final assembly. The bag passes through only a few, highly skilled hands rather than an assembly line, which is why stitching and edge finishing carry small variations from one bag to the next: a mark of craftsmanship, not an inconsistency to correct. The same care goes into every size and every carry.
MATERIALS
Canvas, leather, brass and copper
The canvas weighs 18oz and comes from Halley Stevenson in Scotland, a mill with over 150 years of history in waxed cotton: heavy and slightly stiff to the touch, until it's earned its break-in. The leather is vegetable-tanned at Tärnsjö Tannery, from hides sourced locally from Swedish farms. Zippers run brass, made by YKK, hardware is hand-set copper rivets, and the padding in select models is Swedish wool felt from Woolpower in Östersund.
CARE
Brush, rinse, leave it be
Brush off loose dirt with a soft brush, then wipe with a damp cloth in cold water if more is needed. Rinse with cold water and hang to dry before using the bag again. Never use soap or detergent on the canvas as it breaks down the wax finish and voids the warranty. No machine washing, dry cleaning, or tumble drying. Waxed canvas can go years without a proper wash, and it only looks better for the wear.
DESIGN
Built around what people actually carry
Every shape is dictated by what's actually being carried: a padded back panel to protect what can't take a knock, a snap closure where a zipper would only get in the way, an outer pocket for whatever needs to come out without digging through the whole bag. The entire range comes with Crud's lifetime warranty against material and manufacturing defects: the same terms, no matter the model. A bag bought today should still be repairable in ten years.
